Manual Machinist Wanted (seattle, WA)
Looking for both Journeyman Manual Machinist as well as those interested in Apprentice Manual Machinist.
About:
Propulsion Systems, Inc. is a repair Facility located in South Seattle. We provide Field Service Engineers & Manufacturing for Controllable Pitch Propellers, Thrusters, PTO's, Shaft Brakes, Electronic and Pneumatic Controls for marine applications.
Salary/Compensation:
$25 - $50 an hour (Dependent on experience level)
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Operate Machinery: Use manual tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to cut, shape, and finish materials according to specifications.
• Read Blueprints: Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics to determine machining requirements and methods.
• Measure and Inspect: Utilize precision measuring instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers) to ensure parts meet quality standards and specifications.
• Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on machinery to ensure optimal performance and safety.
• Quality Control: Conduct inspections of finished products and make necessary adjustments to maintain high-quality standards.
• Capable of training other machinists and correcting errors

Qualifications:
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a manufacturing or machining environment is required. Previous roles as a lathe operator or in manual machining are advantageous.
• Must be able to set up and operate at least two of the fabrication processes while achieving and maintaining established quality and efficiency standards
• Make parts to meet the requirements of Design and Manufacturing Engineering using proper tooling, inspection equipment and through proper set-up and operation of equipment
• Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments
• Requires standing 90% of shift
• Requires good manual dexterity
• Exposed to hazards/risks that require body protection (gloves, pants, steel toes, sleeves, safety glasses)
• Apply basic skills. Performs simple fabrication processes
Requirements:
• Ability to machine a variety of metals such as 300 and 400 series stainless steels, brass, copper, steel, composites, and exotic alloys
• Prior machining experience (3+ years for Journeyman level applications)
• Prior experience with set up and operation of manually controlled machines (3+ years for Journeyman level applications)
• Prior experience reading and interpreting blueprints (2+ years for Journeyman level applications)
• Experience using precision tools, machinery and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, band saw, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment
• Rigging experience using safe practices
• Good communication skills
• Knowledge of setting up and operating manual lathes and mills
• Track record of being able to provide high quality work in a fast-paced environment
• Plan, layout, set-up, operate and make tool adjustments to cut and shape all types of metals and synthetics using manual (e.g., lathes, millers and grinders) numerically controlled and computerized machine shop equipment
• Strong focus on accuracy and quality in work, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues as they arise.
