Description

Farmhand live-in - (E. Kingston) © craigslist - Map data © OpenStreetMap google map Immediate opening for live-in position on horse farm (includes private room, bathroom, living room area, shared kitchen, and utilities) for someone with a variety of skills who enjoys being outdoors and is willing to do physical labor. Work includes: morning and afternoon feeding and turnout of horses, daily stall cleaning and restocking, caring for smaller animals as well, building and equipment maintenance. Many chores happen on a daily basis while others happen weekly like cleaning housing for smaller farm animals, moving animals from one area to another, repairing fences, and running errands. There are also seasonal chores such as raking, shoveling and working in the hay fields. Stall for own horse may be negotiated. Serious inquiries only. No drugs or alcohol. References required. Pay: $2400 p/mth. ($1200 applied to board; $300 at end of each week) Requirements We need the person we hire to meet the needs as described: - have reliable transportation and valid driver's license are a must - plan to accept a long-term position - be capable and willing to work hard labor daily - have interest in barn chores and animal care, particularly big horses - have ability to follow directions but can work independently without needing constant direction - can accept direction when needed without giving a negative attitude - enjoy working outdoors year-round Not mandatory but definitely a plus: - experience with horses - some mechanic and/or carpentry skills or at least able to follow directions - basic maintenance skills Required traits: - Drug-free and alcohol-free - Trustworthy - Strong communication skills - Dependable, thorough, hardworking - Reliable - Prompt - Flexible Live-in position details: The person who accepts this position should be someone who desires to live the life of an animal farmer and who might want to have a farm of their own someday. The intention of the position is to provide housing for someone to be on the farm who can help with performing the day to day activities and projects (as part of the staff) necessary to keep the farm running. Someone with some mechanic and carpentry skills is preferable as we always have equipment to work on and projects to complete. We also have lots of hay to cut, bale and stack so tractor driving would also be a plus. The housing situation is a small bedroom, bathroom, and small living room type area in the basement of the main house where there is also a washer and dryer. Board includes utilities and use of kitchen, unless there is excessive usage in which case there will be extra charge. The position involves working 7 days a week. There will be morning and afternoon barn chores (feeding and turning out horses, cleaning and restocking stalls, feeding small animals) and other farm related jobs and projects so it basically would be comparable to working each day. There will be opportunity to ride and to participate in other events at the farm or in the community. **Time off will need to be negotiated with the owner as the animals need to be cared for every day.** Pay: $2400 per month with $1200 of that applied to board, leaving $300 cash paid at end of each week.
