Inspect brakes, steering, suspension, and other critical safety systems for wear and tear. Perform pre-shift inspections to ensure tow trucks are roadworthy. Specialized Tasks: Repair and maintain hydraulic systems used for lifting and securing towed vehicles. Adjust and repair winch mechanisms. Troubleshoot electrical issues related to towing lights and auxiliary equipment. Documentation and Communication: Maintain detailed repair records and parts inventory. Communicate effectively with tow truck operators regarding vehicle issues and repair status. Collaborate with other mechanics and service technicians. Required Skills and Qualifications: Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of diesel engine mechanics, including fuel systems, cooling systems, and electrical circuits. Diagnostic Skills: Ability to interpret diagnostic codes and troubleshoot complex mechanical issues. Hand Tools and Equipment Proficiency: Familiarity with a wide range of hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment used for diesel engine repair. Physical Ability: Ability to lift heavy parts, work in tight spaces, and stand for extended periods. Problem-Solving Skills: Capability to analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop effective repair solutions. Additional Qualifications: Diesel mechanic certification or experience.
