Updated: Oct. 1, 2026 — Valpak has launched the largest consumer giveaway in its 50-plus-year history: one U.S. household will win a brand-new vehicle worth more than $40,000. The sweepstakes, presented by Valvoline Instant Oil Change, runs through Nov. 6, 2026, and is being promoted across both the classic Valpak envelope and the Clipp magazine. The promotion is live nationwide now, with free entry at valpak.com/freeride.
The promotion began appearing in mailboxes on Sept. 28, 2026. The front cover of the Valpak envelope carries a teaser, and the Clipp magazine has a corner peel on its cover. To enter, consumers can visit valpak.com/freeride or scan the QR code printed on either piece. No purchase is necessary, and the sweepstakes is open to legal U.S. residents who are 18 or older.
Entries are accepted through 8 a.m. ET on Nov. 6, 2026. Valpak says a winner will be drawn on or about Nov. 9, 2026. The vehicle is valued at more than $40,000, though the exact make and model have not been revealed. That prize level is well beyond anything Valpak Clipp has given away before, the company said.
This marks the first time Valpak has wrapped a single sweepstakes around both the envelope and the Clipp magazine. Valpak’s blue envelope has been a fixture in American mailboxes for more than half a century. Each month, the company says it delivers money-saving offers to more than 60 million households, and 94% of recipients open the envelope or magazine to see what’s inside. Millions more people use valpak.com for printable coupons, promo codes and local deals.
By putting a car on the cover, Valpak is giving its existing audience a reason to engage with the entire mailer. The sweepstakes also gives local advertisers in the envelope a larger halo: someone who opens the page for the car may also scan nearby restaurant and retail offers.
Annica Conrad, SVP of Consumer Growth & Engagement at Valpak Clipp, said the prize is part of a broader effort to make the mailbox feel less like clutter. “This is the biggest prize we’ve ever put behind our Valpak envelope and Clipp magazine, and it’s the first time we’ve brought both brands together around a single giveaway,” she said in the announcement.
Valvoline Instant Oil Change is the presenting partner on the giveaway. It’s a natural pairing for a car prize, but the company’s role goes beyond branding. Valvoline will also run its own offer in select markets as part of the promotion, giving it a chance to turn sweepstakes entrants into future customers at its service centers.
Valvoline Inc. (NYSE: VVV) operates or franchises roughly 2,500 service centers in the U.S. and Canada. The company says it completes more than 30 million services per year system-wide, from stay-in-your-car oil changes to wiper replacements and tire rotations. Its network employs more than 13,500 team members. For Valvoline, the sweepstakes is a relatively low-cost way to put its message in front of millions of households without leading with a price-focused coupon.
Jake Lestan, Vice President of Marketing at Valvoline Inc., framed the partnership as an extension of the brand’s focus on making car maintenance easy. “Partnering with Valpak Clipp on this fun promotion is a great way to connect with drivers and bring a little excitement to their mailbox,” he said.
Sweepstakes have been around for decades, but the prize mix tends to shift with the economy. Cash is simple, but a car remains one of the most emotionally resonant prizes a brand can offer. It is tangible, aspirational and easy to visualize. For Valpak, a vehicle worth more than $40,000 also creates a stark contrast with the usual array of cents-off coupons and two-for-one deals that arrive in the same envelope.
The campaign also serves as a measurement opportunity. The QR code printed on both pieces could give Valpak Clipp a direct path to see which format is driving entries. That kind of data may inform future decisions about how much space to give to engagement-driven promotions versus traditional offers.
Consumers who missed the physical mail pieces can still enter online at valpak.com/freeride. No purchase is required. All entries must be received before 8 a.m. ET on Nov. 6, 2026. The winner will be selected on or about Nov. 9, 2026. As is standard for U.S. sweepstakes, official rules and eligibility requirements apply; the company directs entrants to the Valpak website for full details.
The promotion goes beyond the mailbox. Valpak Clipp will feature the sweepstakes prominently on valpak.com and the Clipp website, with additional support through email, social media and public relations. That extends the giveaway beyond the 60 million households that receive the print product and lets digital-only users take part as well.
The larger story here is Valpak’s determination to keep its print product relevant. The blue envelope has weathered email marketing, coupon platforms and subscription-based advertising models. A sweepsstakes with a car worth more than $40,000 is a reminder that direct mail can still surprise. And by linking the envelope to a mobile-friendly QR code, Valpak is making the old format feel more current.
For consumers, the task is simple: look through the mail before recycling it. The car giveaway is a reason to give the Valpak envelope and Clipp magazine a second glance. And even if the prize goes to someone else, the bundle of local deals inside may still make the trip to the recycle bin worthwhile.
The bottom line: this fall’s Valpak mailer deserves a second look. Valvoline is along for the ride, and consumers have until Nov. 6 to get their entry in. Whether you use the envelope, the magazine, or the website, the path is the same — valpak.com/freeride.
