KILLINGLY, CT. (WFSB) -- Route 12 in Killingly was shut down late Saturday near North Main Street after a two-car crash involving injuries, according to Connecticut State Police. The closure began just after 9:18 p.m., and state police did not say when the road would reopen.
Emergency crews, including the Killingly Fire Department and EMS, responded to the scene. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, but responders were seen treating at least one person. Officials have not yet confirmed whether anyone was transported to a hospital.
The Department of Transportation listed the closure between Dog Hill Road and Rock Avenue. Authorities diverted traffic onto local roads, and motorists were advised to avoid the area as investigators examined the vehicles. A DOT alert described the situation as a motor vehicle accident.
Route 12 through Killingly is a busy local corridor, and the closure forced drivers to find alternative paths such as North Main Street and other side roads. No estimated reopening time had been issued as of the latest DOT update.
The cause of the two-car crash remains under investigation. Police have not released the names of those involved, and it is unclear whether any citations were issued. Crews remained at the scene for several hours before leaving, though state police continued their work.
State police are asking anyone who saw the crash to contact the Troop D barracks in Danielson. WFSB has reached out to the department for an update and will share additional details when they are released.
