Updated August 20, 2026 – Despite carefully curated headlines, Tesla’s position in Norway is deteriorating in plain numbers. The automaker’s market share has slid for four straight years, registrations plunged 55% in Q3, and a growing body of evidence points to a pattern of subsidized delivery surges and misleading charts.
Here’s the breakdown of what the raw data actually shows.
Market share: Four years of decline
According to Norway’s official vehicle registry OFV, Tesla’s share of all EV registrations has fallen every year since 2023:
Tesla’s record volume of 34,000 units in 2025 was celebrated as a triumph, but the EV market itself grew 59% that year, from 110,110 registrations in 2023 to 174,989 in 2025. Tesla’s 35% growth was less than the market’s, meaning it lost ground even in its best year.
Sales collapses when Tesla stops paying
Norwegian consumers have shown they will only buy Tesla in volume when the company funds the purchase. Every surge links directly to a financial incentive:
The rebate expired March 31, 2026. In Q2, Tesla lowered the incentive to NOK 30,000
