March 8, 2026 — Tata Consultancy Services has renewed its title partnership with Jaguar TCS Racing under a multi-year deal that also makes it the team's official AI partner. The announcement comes as Jaguar TCS Racing starts its preparation for Formula E's GEN4 era, fresh from a 2025/26 campaign that secured the ABB FIA Formula E Teams' World Championship with four wins and ten podiums.

The expanded agreement deepens a relationship that has run for five seasons. During that stretch, the two sides have shared two world championship celebrations — in 2024 and 2026 — and a string of engineering projects designed to take time and risk out of car development.

TCS global chief marketing officer Abhinav Kumar said the renewal gives the partners room to use AI and other technologies more aggressively as the team enters the next phase of Formula E. JLR Motorsport chairman Chris Thorp made a similar point, saying data and AI would become more important to performance as the championship moves to the GEN4 rulebook.

Why software is now part of the car

The existing technology base already shows how the partnership works on a practical level. TCS and Jaguar TCS Racing have been using cloud services and digital-twin systems to assess engineering changes before those changes reach the actual race car. One of the key tools is the TCS Virtual Vehicle Validation Model, or V3M, which lets engineers run simulations and check software updates when track testing is limited.

That kind of workflow was useful during the GEN3 Evo era; it is likely to become essential under GEN4. The new regulations will run from Season 13 to Season 16, and they place a heavier emphasis on energy management, powertrain software and consistency across different track conditions. Limited on-track testing makes it harder to gather enough data before a race weekend, which is where simulation tools enter the picture.

Jaguar's long-term bet

Jaguar entered Formula E in 2016 as the first premium manufacturer to race in the all-electric championship. The team now has more than 20 race victories, over 60 podiums and a decade's worth of development work on electric racing technology. Its latest car, the Jaguar I-TYPE 7, raced through the GEN3 Evo period, a phase in which Jaguar TCS Racing took 10 victories across Seasons 11 and 12 — the highest count of any team in that era.

The commitment does not end with the flagship team. Jaguar develops its own powertrain, transmission, inverter and rear suspension for Formula E, and it will supply GEN4 powertrains to the Paysafe Envision Formula E Team and Fortescue Zero Racing. That makes Jaguar both a competitor and a supplier, which gives TCS's simulation and AI work a multiplier effect: three cars on the grid will carry systems that have been validated through the same digital models.

Driver picture and next steps

António Félix da Costa will return for a second year at Jaguar TCS Racing in 2026/27. The team has not yet announced his teammate, leaving one more question to be answered before pre-season testing. Ian James remains in place as team principal, providing continuity in the lead-up to a new technical era.

The delayed driver announcement is not unusual for this time of year, but it does keep attention on Jaguar as one of the corners of the driver market. The engineering team is already deep into GEN4 preparation, and the closing of the driver lineup is the most visible piece of unfinished business.

More than a badge

For a technology company, this kind of sponsorship no longer stops at logos and press releases. TCS is effectively embedded in Jaguar's race operations, using its V3M model and cloud platforms to help engineers make decisions with less physical testing. That gives TCS a useful story when it talks to enterprise customers in other industries where software quality and uptime are critical.

For JLR, the TCS connection supports a broader electrification narrative. Formula E has become the proof point for electric powertrain knowledge inside the company, and the new AI partnership gives that story a sharper edge. It also answers a question that has followed the series since the first race: how do you keep technology development moving when performance is no longer purely mechanical?

What to watch

Jaguar TCS Racing now enters a new chapter as the reigning teams' champion. The team has already won under two different rulebooks, which means GEN4 will be the third test of its ability to adapt. TCS's expanded role suggests the answer will rely on software at least as much as hardware.

The 2026/27 season will reveal whether that bet pays off. For now, the engineering focus is on validation work behind closed doors — and on naming the driver who will join da Costa in a car carrying the weight of a title defense.
