August 17, 2025 – Stellantis has issued a massive recall covering 954,885 vehicles across its Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands, citing a software flaw that can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying on the infotainment screen. The problem, traced to faulty radio software, affects nearly all 2026 and 2027 model-year vehicles from the automaker, and includes minivans, sedans, SUVs, pickups, and commercial vans. While no accidents or injuries have been reported, the failure to comply with federal rearview visibility standards triggered the action.
The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) requires all new vehicles sold after May 2018 to have a functioning backup camera that activates automatically when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. In the affected Stellantis vehicles, the radio software may fail to initiate the camera feed, leaving the driver with a blank or frozen infotainment screen. The condition is intermittent and may not occur every time the vehicle is reversed, making it more dangerous because drivers cannot rely on consistent behavior.
Stellantis says the root cause is a software conflict within the radio head unit, not a hardware defect. The company has identified the specific software version range that triggers the fault and has already developed a fix. The recall covers 848,511 vehicles in the U.S., 82,869 in Canada, 7,969 in Mexico, and an additional 15,736 outside North America – a total of 954,885 units.

Owners can check the NHTSA recall database or Stellantis's own recall lookup tool using their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The automaker expects to notify owners by mail starting in September 2025, but the remedy will be deployed much faster than traditional recalls.
One of the most notable aspects of this recall is the remedy: a free over-the-air (OTA) software update that can be downloaded and installed directly on the vehicle's touchscreen. Because all affected models are 2026 or newer – and equipped with Stellantis's Uconnect 5 or newer infotainment system – the company can push the update wirelessly. Owners will receive a notification on the screen prompting them to install the update, which takes about 10 minutes and does not require a trip to the dealership.
Stellantis has been ramping up its OTA capabilities since 2023, and this recall demonstrates the growing trend of software-based fixes for safety defects.
