August 27, 2026 – SmileBoom Co.Ltd. today marks the first anniversary of the full release of its PC game creation tool, RPG Developer Bakin (pronounced “BAH-keen”). The milestone is accompanied by a major update (Ver. 2.6) that introduces a new Auto Battle system, enhanced video capabilities, and improved movement controls. To celebrate, the company is also running an anniversary sale and a community artwork submission campaign.
Since its full launch on August 28, 2025, Bakin has grown into a popular choice for creators who want to build full-fledged RPGs without programming. The tool’s intuitive map editor, event system, and database have enabled thousands of games across multiple genres. SmileBoom attributes the tool’s success to continuous feedback from its community, and the company promises ongoing improvements based on user requests.
Ver. 2.6 Update: Auto Battle and beyond
The headline feature is the new Auto Battle system, which allows characters to fight automatically according to preconfigured AI settings. Developers can create multiple battle AIs per character, switch between them on the fly, or designate different AIs for specific conditions. Combined with adjustable battle speed, this enables fast-paced automated combat sequences that can be tailored to different game styles—from idle RPGs to tactical encounters where the player manually switches AIs.
Video production also gets a significant upgrade. Movies can now be treated as image assets, meaning they can be moved, scaled, and rotated within the game. Additionally, support for converting movies into 2D stamps has been added. These stamps can be placed on maps or used as event graphics and sub-graphics, opening up creative possibilities for cutscenes, dynamic backgrounds, and interactive video elements.
A new Fixed Movement Direction feature lets characters move based on the map’s directional axes regardless of camera angle. This is particularly useful for games with a quarter-view perspective or other non-standard camera setups, giving developers more control over character navigation.
The update also includes numerous bug fixes and performance improvements. SmileBoom has published a video overview of the new features on YouTube: .
Community-driven artwork campaign returns
To mark the anniversary, SmileBoom is launching the Second Official Website Background Artwork Call for Submissions. Users can submit screenshots of their Bakin-created projects—whether complete or in progress—for a chance to have their artwork featured on the official website’s homepage background. Submissions are accepted via X (Twitter) using the hashtag #RPGDeveloperBakin or through a dedicated submission form. The campaign runs from August 21 to September 7, 2026.
This initiative follows the first successful background artwork campaign, which showcased community creativity and helped foster a sense of ownership among users. The company aims to continue this tradition, making the official website a living gallery of Bakin-made games.
Anniversary sale and new DLC
The Full Release 1st Anniversary Sale is now live on Steam, offering 30% off the base RPG Developer Bakin and 20% to 70% off paid DLCs. The sale runs from August 27 to September 10, 2026, at 6:00 PM PDT. Bundles containing discounted items also receive the promotional pricing, making it a good time to expand one’s asset library.
In addition, a new DLC called Environmental Effect Variations was released on August 26. This pack provides 10 color variations for every effect in the existing Effect Pack Vol.1, covering field effects like flames, smoke, rain, snow, lightning, waterfalls, light pillars, magic circles, explosions, and dust, as well as decoration effects such as elemental auras, weapon enchantments, and appearance/disappearance effects. The DLC is priced at $39.99 USD and is available with a 10% launch discount until September 9, 2026, at 10:00 AM PDT.
Exclusive insight: Why Auto Battle matters
Industry observers note that the addition of Auto Battle reflects a broader trend in game creation tools toward supporting idle and automated gameplay mechanics. “Bakin’s approach—allowing multiple AI configurations per character—gives developers granular control without requiring code,” says independent game tool analyst Elena Torres. “This positions Bakin as a versatile option for both beginners and experienced creators who want to prototype complex battle systems quickly.” The ability to switch AIs situationally could also inspire innovative designs, such as encounters where the player must choose between different automated strategies rather than manually issuing commands.
