March 21, 2025 – PressReader.com, one of the world's largest digital newspaper and magazine subscription platforms, has announced the launch of a new Premium Tier, expanding its offering beyond the standard all-you-can-read plan. The move comes as digital news consumption hits record highs in 2025, with readers seeking more flexible, ad-free, and multi-device access.
PressReader's new Premium Tier, priced at $29.99 per month, unlocks unlimited access to over 7,000 publications from 120+ countries, including major titles like The Washington Post, The Guardian, Le Monde, and Der Spiegel. Unlike the standard plan, the Premium Tier removes all advertisements, provides offline reading for up to 30 days, and allows up to five family members to share a single account.
“We’ve listened to our subscribers who wanted a more immersive and uninterrupted reading experience,” said Sarah Chen, VP of Product at PressReader, in a press release. “The Premium Tier reflects our commitment to making global journalism accessible without distractions.”
The digital newsstand market has become increasingly competitive. Competitors like Magzter and Readly offer similar catalog sizes but often lack the same breadth of international titles. PressReader’s strength lies in its strong partnerships with publishers, particularly in North America and Europe. The new Premium Tier undercuts Magzter Gold ($34.99/month) while offering more family sharing options.
According to a recent report by the Digital News Association, 68% of news consumers now prefer bundled digital subscriptions over single-publication plans. “PressReader is positioning itself as a Netflix for newspapers,” said Dr. Lisa Tran, media analyst at MediaTech Advisors. “By adding ad-free sharing and offline capabilities, they’re directly addressing the top pain points of digital readers. The timing is smart, especially as inflation pushes households to consolidate spending.”
The Premium Tier is available immediately in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia, with a rollout to other markets planned in Q2 2025. Existing subscribers can upgrade at any time, and new users can try the Premium Tier free for 14 days. PressReader also announced that its mobile app has been updated with faster loading times and a redesigned reading interface.
Interested readers can sign up via PressReader.com or download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play. The platform supports both iOS and Android, as well as web browsers. For users who prefer a lower-cost option, the standard plan remains at $12.99 per month, offering unlimited reading with ads and limited offline access.
PressReader has hinted at integrating AI-powered article summarization and personalized news feeds later this year. While no official launch date has been set, the company’s roadmap suggests a stronger focus on curation and discovery, aiming to compete with news aggregators like Apple News+ and Google News.
The launch of PressReader.com’s Premium Tier signals a shift toward premium, ad-free, shareable digital news experiences. With a competitive price point and a vast library of publications, the platform is well-positioned to capture both avid news readers and families looking for a single subscription solution. As the digital news landscape evolves, PressReader.com continues to adapt, making it a key player to watch in 2025.
