April 27, 2026 — Omoda & Jaecoo will unveil its new “X” crossover to the world on October 20, 2026. The model, which will be launched under the Omoda brand, is confirmed to come with plug-in hybrid and hybrid-electric powertrains, putting it squarely in the fast-growing electrified crossover space. It also marks the brand’s most ambitious driver-assist package yet, featuring a new AI-powered valet parking system.

Key facts at a glance

  • Global debut: Oct. 20, 2026
  • Brand: Omoda
  • Powertrain options: PHEV and HEV (details to come)
  • Notable tech: Super Intelligent Valet Parking System (SIVP) and AI pilot
  • Design language: angular “cyber mecha” style

Why the Omoda X matters

Omoda & Jaecoo might not be a household name in the U.S. yet, but the company is expanding quickly across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and Australia. Backed by China’s Chery Automobile Group, the two brands give Chery a second front in export markets, with Omoda tilted toward lifestyle crossovers and Jaecoo focused on rugged SUVs. The X is the next logical step in that push—one that pairs electrification with a more advanced technology suite than prior models.

By choosing both PHEV and HEV, Omoda is playing a volume game. Not every market has the charging infrastructure to support full EVs, and many buyers still want the flexibility of a combustion engine as a fallback. A dual-hybrid strategy helps the X slide into a wider range of regions and price points.

Powertrain: What we know so far

The company hasn’t shared battery capacity, electric-only range, or total system output. All it has said is that the X will offer PHEV and HEV versions. It has also described the crossover as having sports-car-level agility while retaining “some level” of off-road capability. That line hints at a performance-oriented tuning—possibly with a multi-link suspension or torque-vectoring—rather than a hardcore off-roader like Jaecoo’s larger SUVs.

Without concrete numbers, it’s hard to say exactly where the X will sit in the market. But the pairing of PHEV and HEV suggests Omoda wants broad appeal: buyers who plug in every night and those who simply want an efficient hybrid without plugging in at all.

Smart driving: a new benchmark for the brand

The X will feature the same advanced driver-assist systems (ADAS) found on other Omoda and Jaecoo models, but it adds two significant layers: the Super Intelligent Valet Parking System (SIVP) and an AI pilot. Omoda says the two technologies work in tandem to create a “full-scenario smart mobility experience.” That’s deliberately vague, though it points to automated parking, lane management, and a more advanced assisted-driving mode than a standard Level 2 setup.

For U.S. buyers, the name “AI pilot” will inevitably raise comparisons to Tesla’s Autopilot or GM’s Super Cruise. Chinese automakers often sell these systems with bold claims, so independent validation will be critical. The SIVP feature, in particular, will need to be tested in real-world parking environments before skeptics are convinced.

Design: sharper, edgier and unmistakably futuristic

The first design sketch shows a highly angular machine with crisp creases and a sloping roofline. Omoda calls the look “cyber mecha,” and it carries over from the Omoda 4 that was exhibited at Auto China 2026. Expect a pointed nose, slim LED lighting units, deep character lines, and a coupe-like rear. The production version won’t be identical to the sketch, but the design language should remain intact.

Omoda has described the X as the next exploration in its crossover formula, following the Omoda 5, 7, and 4. Given the progression, it’s fair to assume the X will be bolder and more aggressive than its predecessors. It’s a design-first approach—one that may not please everyone, but it should ensure the X stands out in a crowded showroom.

How it could stack up against popular PHEV crossovers

If the X arrives in North America, its primary rivals would be reasonably clear: Toyota RAV4 Prime, Hyundai Tucson PHEV, Kia Sportage PHEV, and Ford Escape PHEV. Each of those models has an established following, a well-known badge, and a developed dealer network. Omoda would not only have to price aggressively, but also convince shoppers to trust an unfamiliar nameplate. The X’s styling and tech could help break through, but they won’t be enough on their own.

The American question

Right now, there is no official indication that the Omoda X will be sold in the United States. Omoda & Jaecoo has not yet established a North American dealer network, and the brand is still early in its global ramp-up. That puts the X in a difficult position for U.S. consumers who might be interested—they can look, but they likely won’t be able to buy one anytime soon.

Still, the timing is interesting. Plug-in hybrid sales in the U.S. have strengthened in recent years as buyers look for a middle ground between gas-only vehicles and fully electric ones. Models like the Toyota RAV4 Prime and Ford Escape PHEV have demonstrated that a well-rounded PHEV crossover can attract a loyal audience. If Omoda eventually enters the U.S., the X’s combination of hybrid powertrains, aggressive styling, and clever parking tech could give it a distinctive value proposition—but it would face steep competition on price, dealer support, and brand trust.

What to expect next

Between now and October 20, Omoda & Jaecoo will likely drip-feed teasers, technical details, and perhaps a closer look at the interior. The global debut will confirm final exterior styling and likely the full powertrain lineup. Regional rollout plans, including any potential U.S. market entry, may take longer to emerge.

One thing is clear: the Omoda X is not just another crossover. It’s the brand’s attempt to position itself as a serious electrified player with advanced technology that can compete beyond China. For now, we’ll have to wait to see if the production version lives up to the promise.
