Three individuals have been arrested in connection with a burglary at a convenience store in Nottingham, where cigarettes, alcohol, and a significant amount of cash were stolen. The incident occurred late Tuesday night, and police confirmed the arrests Wednesday morning, March 19, 2025.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police responded to reports of a break-in at a shop on Mansfield Road shortly before 11 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the front door forced open and multiple items missing, including several cartons of cigarettes, bottles of spirits, and an undisclosed sum of cash from the register.

Detective Inspector Sarah Collins, leading the investigation, said the swift arrests were the result of a coordinated response. “Our team acted on tip-offs from the public and CCTV footage,” Collins stated. “We have taken three individuals into custody, and they are being questioned at a local police station.”

The suspects, two men aged 24 and 31, and a 27-year-old woman, are believed to be known to the police. They are being held on suspicion of burglary and theft. The stolen property has not yet been recovered, but officers are conducting searches at addresses linked to the suspects.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community. Residents reported hearing loud noises and seeing a vehicle speeding away from the scene. “It’s worrying,” said local shop owner Ahmed Patel, whose store is two doors down. “We’ve had petty theft before, but this was a brazen attack. The police need to stay vigilant.”

Nottinghamshire Police have increased patrols in the area and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward. “We are particularly interested in dashcam footage from vehicles on Mansfield Road between 10:30 p.m. and midnight,” DI Collins added.

This is not the first such incident in the region. According to recent crime statistics, commercial burglaries in Nottingham have risen by 6% compared to the same period last year. The police attribute the increase to a combination of economic pressures and reduced footfall in city center areas.

The arrested individuals are expected to appear before Nottingham Magistrates’ Court later this week. The investigation continues, and more charges may follow.

Local councilor Tom Bradley called for stronger security measures. “We need better lighting, more cameras, and a quicker police response. Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and they deserve protection,” he said.

As the case unfolds, the focus remains on recovering the stolen goods and ensuring justice is served. Nottinghamshire Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling retail crime and urge the public to remain vigilant.
