April 10, 2025 – MG Motor is reportedly planning to introduce the Hector Hawk, a plug-in hybrid version of its popular Hector SUV, to the United States market. While the vehicle is already sold in several Asian markets as the Wuling Starlight 560, MG is now evaluating a US launch to compete in the growing plug-in hybrid SUV segment. Here are the top five features that could make the Hector Hawk a compelling option for American buyers.
1. All-New Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain The Hector Hawk’s biggest selling point is its brand-new plug-in hybrid system, a first for MG’s mass-market lineup. The powertrain combines a 1.5-liter turbo gasoline engine with an electric motor and a battery pack, delivering a combined output of roughly 190 horsepower. In WLTC testing, the Wuling Starlight 560 achieves an all-electric range of about 50 miles (80 km), which would translate to an EPA-estimated range of 40–45 miles—enough to cover most daily commutes without burning a drop of gas. The system also supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to go from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes, a feature rarely seen in this price segment.
2. Bold, Aggressive Exterior Design The Hector Hawk sheds the conservative looks of the standard Hector for a more athletic, sporty appearance. Up front, it features a large, blacked-out grille flanked by sharp LED headlamps with integrated daytime running lights. The hood gains sculpted lines, and the side profile is accentuated by 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and a floating roof effect. At the rear, a full-width LED taillight bar and a roof-mounted spoiler give it a sleek, modern SUV silhouette. The design is clearly aimed at younger buyers who want a crossover that stands out in a crowded parking lot.
