Mersin, April 10, 2025 – A suspect who shattered the window of a parked car in the Mezitli district of Mersin, while deliberately covering his face, has been taken into custody. The arrest came after security camera footage captured the entire act, providing key evidence for police. The incident, which occurred late last week, had sparked concern among local residents about property safety.
Police confirmed on Thursday that the individual, whose identity has not been publicly released pending formal charges, was tracked down using the surveillance footage. The video shows the suspect approaching the vehicle, pressing his face against the glass to obscure his features, then picking up a stone and hurling it at the driver-side window. The impact left the window shattered, and the suspect quickly fled the scene.
Sources within the Mersin Police Department told local media that the footage was reviewed by forensic teams, who identified distinct clothing and physical characteristics that led to the suspect's arrest within 48 hours. The suspect is currently being held at the Mezitli Police Station, where he is being questioned. Investigators are exploring possible motives, including vandalism, attempted theft, or a personal dispute. So far, no items are reported stolen from the vehicle, suggesting the act may have been purely destructive.
