July 2025 – Mazda has officially rolled out its Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program in the United States, rebranded as Mazda Selected. The initiative, previously tested in the UK, now targets American dealerships and consumers looking for a hassle-free, high-quality used car buying experience.
The program comes as Mazda’s U.S. dealer network significantly increases its used-car inventory, partly from off-lease returns and fleet vehicles. By centralizing sourcing and certification, Mazda aims to keep more pre-owned stock within its franchise channel, ensuring customers receive the same level of service and peace of mind as new-car buyers.
Every vehicle sold under the Mazda Selected label undergoes a rigorous multi-point inspection. Buyers also receive:
These benefits are designed to compete with established CPO programs from Toyota, Honda, and Hyundai, which dominate the U.S. used-car market.
Mazda’s U.S. arm has been actively sourcing used vehicles from multiple channels, including lease-end returns, rental fleets, and trade-ins. According to internal data, the volume of vehicles Mazda directly procures on behalf of its dealers has grown from 24% in 2024 to an estimated 42% in 2026. This shift allows dealers to focus on sales and service rather than hunting for inventory.
“Our priority is helping retailers access quality stock while giving customers a compelling reason to buy through them,” said Laura Brailey, Sales Director at Mazda Motors USA (formerly Mazda Motors UK). “Mazda Selected provides that reassurance through rigorous vehicle preparation standards and a comprehensive ownership package.”
Brailey emphasized that the program strengthens the entire ownership journey, whether a customer is buying a new Mazda or a certified pre-owned model. “The profitability of our retailers is paramount,” she added. “Growing the number of retail showroom units sold per site is a key ambition, and used cars are a central part of that strategy.”
The U.S. used-car market is projected to reach $1.5 trillion in sales by 2027, with CPO programs accounting for an increasingly large share. Mazda’s entry into the CPO segment comes at a time when consumers are keeping vehicles longer and demanding higher quality from pre-owned purchases.
A 2025 study by J.D. Power found that CPO vehicles command a 15% price premium over non-certified used cars, but also have significantly lower return rates. Mazda’s program, with its unlimited-mileage warranty and roadside assistance, positions it to capture value-conscious buyers who want new-car reassurance without the new-car price tag.
Additionally, Mazda’s focus on sourcing from Motability-like programs (in the U.S., equivalent to lease-end and fleet returns) ensures a steady supply of low-mileage, well-maintained vehicles. This is a competitive advantage over smaller automakers that rely solely on dealer trade-ins.
The Mazda Selected program launched in California, Texas, and Florida in early July 2025, with a national rollout expected by the fourth quarter. Participating dealers receive training, marketing materials, and direct access to Mazda’s centralized inventory platform.
Early feedback from franchisees is positive. “We’ve been waiting for a factory-backed CPO program,” said John Masterson, owner of Mazda of San Diego. “It gives us a stronger story to tell customers and helps us compete with the big CPO players.”
Mazda’s Certified Pre-Owned program is a strategic move to boost dealer profitability, improve customer trust, and capture a larger share of the lucrative used-car market. By combining a comprehensive warranty, roadside assistance, and rigorous inspection standards, Mazda Selected aims to become a top-tier choice for American used-car buyers.
