Maruti Baleno 2026

Updated: March 25, 2025

Maruti Suzuki has officially launched the 2026 Baleno facelift, bringing a significant upgrade to its popular hatchback. While the entire range receives updates, the top-spec Alpha Optional variant stands out as the most feature-packed, offering Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) for the first time in this segment. Here’s a detailed look at what makes this variant the flagship of the lineup.

Design Changes: Subtle but Distinctive

The Alpha Optional trim distinguishes itself from lower variants with several exterior tweaks. Up front, the new three-slat grille dominates the fascia, with the Maruti badge relocated above the grille to accommodate ADAS sensors and the 360-degree camera. The LED headlamps and LED DRLs carry over from the pre-facelift model, but the bumper is redesigned and now features rectangular LED fog lamps.

From the side, the silhouette remains familiar, but the Alpha Optional adds a shark-fin antenna, chrome trim on the front fender, 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and a chrome window line that rises at the rear. ORVMs are equipped with LED turn indicators.

At the rear, the Alpha Optional shares LED taillamps (with an extension onto the boot lid), a rear wiper with washer, reverse parking sensors, a chrome strip connecting the taillamps, and the Maruti logo centered on the boot. The overall look is clean and modern, aligning with the hatchback’s premium positioning.

Color Palette: Seven Shades Including a New Teal

The 2026 Baleno is available in seven exterior colors: Arctic White, Splendid Silver, Bluish Black, Grandeur Grey, Opulent Red, Nexa Blue, and the newly introduced Enigmatic Teal Green. The teal shade is particularly striking and adds a fresh, youthful appeal to the car.

Interior: Upgraded Comfort and Tech

Inside, the cabin retains the layered dashboard design with soft-touch door panels. The semi-digital instrument cluster looks modern and clear, while the floating 9-inch infotainment display is flanked by a satin chrome-finished panel that elevates the interior’s premium feel.

New for the Alpha Optional is dual-tone black-and-blue leatherette seat upholstery, which adds a sporty touch. The leather-wrapped three-spoke steering wheel features silver inserts for added visual interest. Practicality remains strong, with cup holders at the front and Type-C charging ports for both front and rear passengers.

Features: Segment-First Ventilated Seats and More

The Alpha Optional variant is fully loaded with equipment that rivals many cars in the segment and even some above it. Key highlights include:

  • 9-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Connected car technology with remote functions and vehicle tracking
  • Automatic climate control
  • Wireless phone charger
  • USB Type-C charge ports (front and rear)
  • Ventilated front seats (first in the segment)
  • 6-speaker Clarion sound system
  • Keyless entry and push-button start

This variant also gets a 360-degree camera with blind-view monitor, a heads-up display, and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). In short, the Alpha Optional offers nearly every comfort and convenience feature a buyer could want in a subcompact hatchback.

Safety: Level-2 ADAS Raises the Bar

The most significant upgrade for the Alpha Optional is the inclusion of Level-2 ADAS. This suite includes:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane departure warning
  • Forward collision warning
  • Automatic headlamps with high beam assist

These features are exclusive to the Alpha Optional trim and mark a milestone for the segment. In addition, the car comes standard with 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), ISOFIX child seat mounts, and reverse parking sensors. The 360-degree camera includes a blind-view monitor for safer lane changes.

Powertrain: New 1.2L Petrol Engine

The 2026 Baleno facelift introduces a new Z12E 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, replacing the previous unit. Specifications are as follows:

  • Engine: 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol
  • Power: 83 PS (82 hp)
  • Torque: 112 Nm
  • Transmission: 5-speed manual or 5-speed AMT (automated manual)

The AMT variant offers a convenient option for city driving. While power figures are modest, the engine is tuned for efficiency and smoothness, making it suitable for daily commutes.

Pricing and Rivals

Official full pricing for the Baleno facelift is yet to be announced, but the base variant starts at ₹6.10 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The Alpha Optional is expected to be priced at the top of the range, likely around ₹9.5–10 lakh. In India, it competes with the Hyundai i20, Tata Altroz, and Toyota Glanza (which is essentially a rebadged Baleno).

For the U.S. market, while the Baleno is not sold directly, the technology and safety features showcased here—especially ADAS and ventilated seats—are increasingly common in subcompact cars globally. Potential buyers in markets where the Maruti Baleno is available (e.g., Latin America, Africa, Southeast Asia) can expect a similar package.

Our Take: A Well-Rounded Package

The previous-generation Baleno was already praised for its spacious cabin, ample features, and creature comforts like automatic climate control and a 360-degree camera. The 2026 update adds even more: ADAS, ventilated seats, a new engine, and a refreshed design. The Alpha Optional variant bundles all the premium equipment Maruti has to offer, making it the top choice for buyers who prioritize safety and convenience.
