MANCHESTER, N.H. — April 12, 2025 — A routine early-morning pickup at the Manchester Walmart turned into a terrifying ordeal for two brothers, who say a carjacker threatened to kill them before speeding off in their vehicle. The suspect was arrested within 30 minutes, and police are now investigating the incident, which also involved the discovery of suspected drugs inside the stolen car.
According to the brothers, who spoke to WMUR on condition of anonymity, the incident began around 4:30 a.m. Friday. One brother had finished an overnight shift at the Walmart on Queen City Avenue and was waiting for his ride. When his sibling pulled up in a silver Nissan, a man suddenly approached the driver’s side door.
“He said, ‘Get out or I’ll kill you,’” the brother recalled. “He was very serious. I didn’t think twice. I just got out.” Both brothers exited the vehicle, and the suspect jumped in and drove away. The brothers were left shaken but unharmed in the parking lot.
They immediately called 911. About 20 to 30 minutes later, police notified them that the car had been stopped near Elm Street and the suspect taken into custody. When WMUR’s crew arrived, officers were searching the vehicle. The brothers said police found items believed to be drugs inside the car that did not belong to them. Additionally, the owner of the vehicle reported that his cellphone was missing from the car.
Manchester police have not yet confirmed the details of the incident, and the allegations made by the brothers have not been independently verified by law enforcement. In a brief statement, a department spokesperson said the investigation is ongoing and that more information will be released as it becomes available.
The brothers expressed relief that no one was physically hurt, but said the emotional toll has been significant. “I’m just glad my brother is okay,” one of them said. “But it makes you think twice about where you park and who might be watching.” They also noted that the incident occurred in a well-lit area of the Walmart parking lot, which is typically busy even during overnight hours.
Local residents and Walmart shoppers have expressed concern about safety in the area. “I’ve been coming to this Walmart for years, and I’ve never seen anything like this,” said a neighbor who declined to give her name. “It’s scary to think something like this could happen so close to home.”
Police are reviewing surveillance footage from the Walmart and surrounding businesses to piece together the suspect’s movements before the carjacking. The suspect’s identity has not been released, and it remains unclear whether he has a criminal history. Authorities are also working to determine the origin of the drugs found in the car and whether they are connected to the suspect.
The brothers said they are cooperating with the investigation and hope the arrest leads to a conviction. “We just want justice,” one brother said. “And we want other people to be aware that this kind of thing can happen anywhere.”
The Manchester Police Department has urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the department’s criminal investigation division. Meanwhile, the Walmart store has not issued a public statement, but a company spokesperson told WMUR that the safety of customers and associates is a top priority and that they are assisting law enforcement with the investigation.
This is a developing story. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
