April 15, 2025 – Lexus has officially taken the wraps off the 2026 NX SUV, the latest iteration of its best-selling compact luxury crossover. The update brings a sharper exterior design, a more refined hybrid powertrain, and a heavily upgraded interior centered around a new 14-inch touchscreen. With the compact SUV segment more competitive than ever, the refreshed NX aims to hold its ground against rivals like the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and the Acura RDX.
The 2026 NX retains its signature spindle grille but now features a more pronounced mesh pattern and sharper LED headlight signatures. The front bumper intake has been reshaped for improved aerodynamics, while the rear gains a full-width light bar with a new three-dimensional effect. Lexus also introduced two new exterior colors: “Nori Green Pearl” and “Copper Crest.” The F Sport Handling package adds unique bumpers, 20-inch wheels, and a blacked-out grille, giving the NX a sportier stance without overdoing it.
Inside, the biggest change is the standard 14-inch touchscreen, replacing the previous 9.8-inch unit. The display runs the latest Lexus Interface software with over-the-air update capability, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new “Hey Lexus” voice assistant that now understands natural language commands. The dashboard layout has been simplified, with physical HVAC controls retained for safety. Optional ambient lighting now has 64 colors, and the available Mark Levinson audio system has been upgraded with 17 speakers.
Lexus also improved seat comfort with thicker padding and revised lumbar support. Rear legroom remains class-competitive, and cargo space stays at 22.7 cubic feet behind the rear seats, expanding to 46.9 cubes with seats folded.
The 2026 NX lineup continues to offer three powertrains, but the hybrid variants receive the most attention. The NX 350h pairs a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with two electric motors for a combined 240 horsepower, up 1 hp from the outgoing model. Lexus says fuel economy improved by approximately 2 mpg on the highway, now rated at 41 mpg city / 38 mpg highway.
The plug-in hybrid NX 450h+ gets a larger battery pack (18.1 kWh vs. 18.0 kWh), resulting in an estimated 39 miles of all-electric range, a 2-mile increase. The standard NX 250 (2.5L, 203 hp) and NX 350 (2.4L turbo, 275 hp) carry over unchanged, but the turbo model now comes with a standard eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is now standard, adding a new front cross-traffic alert and improved pedestrian detection at night. The adaptive cruise control has been smoothed out for more natural braking and acceleration. Also new is a “Proactive Driving Assist” feature that gently applies brakes or steering to avoid obstacles on curves. The 2026 NX is expected to earn Top Safety Pick+ from IIHS, though official results are pending.
“The NX has always been a strong seller for Lexus, but the compact SUV segment is getting crowded. The updated hybrid system and the big screen are exactly what the lineup needed to stay relevant,” said Sam Fiorani, vice president of global vehicle forecasting at AutoForecast Solutions. “Lexus is betting that buyers still want an efficient, comfortable, and reliable crossover without the polarizing looks of some competitors. The 2026 NX delivers on that promise without taking unnecessary risks.”
Production for the 2026 Lexus NX will begin at the company’s Tahara plant in Japan this fall. US dealerships will receive the first units in November 2025. Pricing starts at an estimated $40,500 for the NX 250, $44,000 for the NX 350h, and $58,000 for the NX 450h+, including destination. The F Sport Handling package adds $2,500 to the respective trim.
Lexus expects the hybrid variants to account for more than 60% of NX sales, up from roughly 50% today, driven by rising fuel costs and stricter emissions standards.
The 2026 Lexus NX doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it refines every aspect that matters to its target audience. The hybrid powertrain improvements, the larger touchscreen, and the enhanced safety tech make it a compelling choice in the compact luxury SUV segment. Buyers looking for a more dramatic change might wait for the next-generation NX expected in 2028, but for now, this update keeps Lexus competitive in a fight that shows no signs of cooling down.
