May 16, 2025 – Kia has officially detailed its first dedicated hot hatch in the electric era: the 2027 Kia EV4 GT. Available in both hatchback and fastback body styles, the EV4 GT is the brand’s most driver-focused electric model to date, blending a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with GT-tuned chassis hardware and a cabin designed to sharpen the driving experience.
Performance and Powertrain
The EV4 GT’s dual-motor setup produces 215 kW (292 hp) and 468 Nm (345 lb-ft) of torque, allowing the hatchback to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.6 seconds. While Kia has not yet released EPA estimates, the WLTP range sits at 537 km (334 miles) for the fastback and 505 km (314 miles) for the hatchback. In real-world U.S. driving, expect roughly 300 miles for the hatchback, placing it competitively against the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Tesla Model 3 Performance.
The GT-specific powertrain calibration goes beyond raw numbers. Kia engineers have programmed three distinct throttle response zones: low-speed for smooth city driving, mid-range for playful throttle modulation, and full-pedal stroke for maximum torque delivery. This gives the driver precise control across every driving scenario, whether creeping through traffic or attacking a back road.
Chassis and Dynamics
Lowering the ride height and widening the track, the EV4 GT prioritizes agility and steering feel. Kia claims the GT benefits from retuned suspension bushings, stiffer anti-roll bars, and a recalibrated electronic stability control system that allows more slip before intervention. The result is a connected, natural feel that rewards the driver without sacrificing the daily usability that defines the standard EV4.
The low center of gravity inherent to the skateboard battery platform is further emphasized by the GT’s bodywork, which includes aero-optimized bumpers and a subtle rear spoiler. Kia’s engineers have focused on integrating steering response, damping, and power delivery into one coherent experience, moving away from the “digital” feel of some competitors toward a more analog, communicative character.
Exclusive Interior and Technology
Inside, the EV4 GT breaks from the standard model with semi-bucket sports seats trimmed in black neoprene-like material with neon accents. The three-spoke steering wheel features a flattened bottom and GT logo, while a “GT” projection lamp greets the driver under the door. The performance-oriented cabin includes a dedicated Performance Timer, allowing drivers to log lap times and acceleration runs directly on the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Standard equipment includes the Harman Kardon premium sound system with 14 speakers, a head-up display, and Kia’s latest connected car navigation with EV routing that optimizes charging stops based on battery temperature and traffic. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain standard.
Market Positioning and Competition
With the EV4 GT, Kia directly challenges the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which offers 601 hp in its most aggressive mode but starts around $65,000. The Kia’s lower power output is offset by a lighter curb weight (estimated around 4,200 lbs) and a more accessible price point, likely between $50,000 and $55,000 when it arrives in U.S. showrooms in late 2026 as a 2027 model.
Industry analysts see the EV4 GT as a crucial step for Kia’s “GT” sub-brand, which has previously applied to the Stinger GT and EV6 GT. The EV4 GT extends the performance lineage into a smaller, more affordable package, targeting younger enthusiasts who want EV thrills without the SUV size. Kia has confirmed that the GT model will be sold alongside the standard EV4, which is expected to start around $35,000.
What’s Next
Kia plans to show the production-ready EV4 GT at the 2026 Los Angeles Auto Show, with pre-orders opening shortly after. The hatchback and fastback will both be available in North America, though Kia has not yet confirmed whether the fastback will carry a premium over the hatchback. Given the strong demand for compact performance EVs, the EV4 GT is poised to become a benchmark in the segment—delivering genuine driver engagement without the range anxiety of earlier electric hot hatches.
