Estacada bonfire altercation

Estacada, Ore. — A juvenile was arrested after a bonfire gathering on the outskirts of Estacada devolved into a fight and a car crash Friday night, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office said.

The teenager was taken into custody at the scene and later booked into the Clackamas County Juvenile Detention Facility. Deputies said the arrest was connected to the altercation, not the crash. The sheriff’s office confirmed the information to The Daily Chronicle on Saturday morning.

The incident began as a small backyard bonfire at a rural property between Estacada and Eagle Creek. According to a sheriff’s office news release, the gathering grew quickly after word spread among local teens, and by 10:30 p.m. the crowd had swelled to more than two dozen people.

Deputies dispatched to large gathering

A 911 caller reported a large crowd fighting near a private driveway. Deputies were sent to the area just before 10:45 p.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026. While en route, dispatchers received another call about a vehicle crashing on the same property.

When deputies arrived, they found a sedan resting against a fence and a group of people still arguing near the driveway. Several people had minor cuts and scrapes, but no one needed to be hospitalized.

Investigators said the crash appeared to have happened as people scrambled to leave during the fight. The driver told deputies he was backing out of the driveway when the sedan struck a parked SUV and then continued into the fence. Deputies said the driver was not arrested and remained at the scene to speak with investigators.

One teenager taken into custody

The arrested juvenile was identified by multiple witnesses as one of the people involved in the physical confrontation. Deputies said the teenager was also accused of throwing a bottle that struck a parked vehicle. Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, the decision was made to take the juvenile into custody.

The sheriff’s office did not release the juvenile’s name because of state laws protecting minors. Booking information from the Clackamas County Juvenile Detention Facility was not made public.

The Clackamas County District Attorney’s Office will review the case and decide whether formal charges should be filed. Deputies said the investigation is still ongoing and additional witnesses have not yet been interviewed.

No weapons were reported

Authorities said there was no evidence that firearms or knives were used during the altercation. However, investigators are looking into whether alcohol was a factor at the gathering. Oregon law prohibits underage possession of alcohol, and deputies said several young people fled the scene before officers could make contact with them.

The property owner declined to comment on the record Saturday. A neighbor who spoke with The Daily Chronicle said the area has seen an increase in outdoor parties in recent weeks as the weather has warmed up.

Deputies ask for video and witnesses

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who was at the bonfire or who lives nearby to come forward, especially if they recorded video on their phones. Investigators believe several people captured parts of the fight and the aftermath on video but may not have realized the importance of the footage.

Anyone with information can contact the sheriff’s office tip line or submit tips anonymously through the Clackamas County website. Deputies also asked the driver of the crashed sedan and his passengers to contact investigators if they left before providing full statements.

The case remains active. The sheriff’s office said no other suspects are being sought at this time, but more interviews are planned in the coming days.
