Jaguar Type 01

May 7, 2026 — Jaguar has finally shown its hand. The all-electric Type 01 is a four-door luxury GT with three motors, up to 1,030 horsepower, and a WLTP range of up to 720 kilometers. It is also the first production model in Jaguar’s fully electric future, and it leans heavily on design cues from the E-type. Here is what the reveal tells us about the car, and what Jaguar still has not announced.

A name that carries the brand’s next chapter

The “Type” part is a nod to classics like the E-type and XJ13. The “0” points to zero tailpipe emissions. The “1” means this is the first of a new generation. Jaguar is not easing into the EV era with a softened crossover; it is opening with a 5,235-millimeter-long GT that sits just 1,403 millimeters tall and rolls on standard 23-inch wheels.

That low, stretched shape is intentional. Jaguar points out that the distance from the front axle’s center to the front door is 898 millimeters — about 17 percent of the car’s length. The company says that ratio is almost identical to the E-type’s, and it is rare among today’s electric sedans.

The body is not just for looks. Active air flaps remain closed until the battery and brakes need extra cooling, and a three-position rear spoiler helps the car reach a claimed drag coefficient of 0.23. Jaguar says that makes the Type 01 its most aerodynamic production model ever. Even the headlights, at just 84 millimeters tall, are the thinnest Jaguar has fitted.

Paint choices include Visionary Silver, Dramatic White, Iconic Black, Compelling Blue, and Refined Grey. For a matte finish, buyers can choose Modernist Blue or Mesmerising Copper.

Three motors and enough torque to embarrass supercars

The Type 01 uses a 260-kW motor up front and two 310-kW motors at the rear. Combined output is rated at up to 1,030 horsepower and 1,365 newton meters. Jaguar calls it the most powerful road car the brand has ever built, and the 0–100 km/h sprint takes 3.2 seconds.

But the numbers that might matter more in daily driving are the chassis ones. Weight is split 50:50 between front and rear, and four-wheel steering gives a turning circle of 11.5 meters. Jaguar claims that is the same as a compact family car’s, which should make the Type 01 less intimidating in a tight parking garage than its dimensions suggest.

There are four preset drive modes — Jaguar, Dynamic, Efficient, and Ice & Snow — plus a fifth Curated Mode that lets the driver dial in specific steering, suspension, and powertrain behavior. Around the car, ten exterior cameras, five radar sensors, and twelve ultrasonic sensors feed the driver-assistance systems and a 360-degree view.

Big battery, fast charging, and a range figure worth noticing

The Type 01’s usable battery capacity is 118 kWh, and the 720-kilometer range claim comes from the WLTP test cycle. On a steady 120 km/h motorway run, Jaguar quotes up to 515 kilometers. For U.S. buyers, that works out to roughly 447 miles WLTP and 320 miles at a constant speed; actual EPA ratings will almost certainly come in lower.

Charging is quick when you can find a powerful enough plug. On a 350-kW DC fast charger, Jaguar says the car adds up to 321 kilometers of range in 13 minutes, and a 10-to-80 percent charge takes about 22 minutes. There are AC charging ports on both sides of the car, so there is no wrong way to plug in at a destination charger.

Jaguar also confirms an 850-volt electrical architecture and a battery warranty of eight years or 161,000 kilometers, which is roughly 100,000 miles.

Inside: four separate seats and a wall of sound

The cabin is built around a full-length center console that splits the interior into four individual zones, with anodized aluminum trim finished to look like brass. A 24-inch OLED display sits in front of the driver, and a smaller seven-inch screen between the front seats handles the most-used controls. The color scheme takes inspiration from travertine stone.

Front seats get twelve-way power adjustment, heating, ventilation, and massage. Rear passengers also get heated and ventilated seats, and a glass panoramic roof is standard.

Audio is a major focus. Jaguar developed the system with Meridian, integrating 38 speakers around the cabin, including a full-width soundbar and speakers embedded in the front headrests. The soundbar also houses the screen that replaces the conventional rearview mirror, fed by a rear-facing camera.

Practicality hasn’t been ignored: the trunk holds more than 450 liters, or 1,000 liters with the rear seats folded down.

How to order — and what Jaguar hasn’t told us

Bookings open October 7, 2026, with first deliveries scheduled for summer 2027. For customers who want something rarer, there is a Chromatic Moments collection limited to 60 cars worldwide, finished in hand-painted French Ultramarine or London Red. Jaguar says the blue was inspired by a pigment used by Monet and van Gogh, while the red recalls Victorian brick facades in London.

Missing from the press material is a price. Jaguar also has not published U.S. pricing, EPA range estimates, or a confirmed American availability date beyond the general delivery window. Given the battery size, powertrain output, and luxury positioning, the Type 01 will almost certainly land in six-figure territory. It is also likely to sit directly against the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, Lucid Air Sapphire, and Mercedes-AMG EQS.

The Type 01 is a restart for Jaguar in the most literal sense. The brand under JLR owner Tata Motors has spent years repositioning itself upward, and this EV is the clearest sign yet that the old lineup — and its old pricing structure — is gone. Whether that bet pays off depends on how many buyers are ready for a 1,030-horsepower GT wearing a Jaguar badge. Orders open in six months; the waiting list may begin even sooner.
