GORDON COUNTY, Ga. — March 28, 2025 — A man suspected of driving under the influence crashed into a fire truck stopped on the interstate and then sped away, with a passenger still trying to get out of the vehicle.
Jacob Razo, 31, now faces charges including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, and reckless driving after the incident around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Authorities say Razo’s car struck the rear of a Gordon County fire engine that was stopped in traffic at the intersection of Interstate 75 and Highway 41. Instead of stopping, he allegedly drove off.
A fire officer spotted the heavily damaged vehicle minutes later at a nearby apartment complex and alerted law enforcement. The sedan had extensive front and rear damage, and airbags had deployed. Witnesses described the car as clearly involved in a major collision.
“The suspect appeared intoxicated during the arrest,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “He repeatedly referred to deputies as ‘bros’ and told them he was ‘paying for it’ — referring to his wrecked car.”
The sheriff’s office noted that fire engines are large, red, and highly visible in traffic, underscoring the recklessness of the driver.
A woman who was a passenger in Razo’s car told deputies that she was trying to get out when he accelerated away. She was not injured but was visibly shaken. Investigators are reviewing whether she will face any charges.
Razo was booked into the Gordon County Jail. His bond was set at $15,000, and he remains in custody as of Friday. The sheriff’s office confirmed that the fire truck was stopped at the scene of a separate emergency call when it was hit.
“This reckless behavior endangered not only the passenger but also our first responders who were working to protect others,” Sheriff Mitch Ralston said in a press release. “We’re fortunate no one was seriously hurt.”
Razo has a prior arrest in Gordon County for obstructing peace officers, according to court records. A hearing is scheduled for next week.
The Georgia State Patrol is assisting with the investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Gordon County Sheriff’s Office.
