Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 isn't in its quiet era, and it never really was.

CD Projekt Red dropped Update 2.5 on October 22, 2025, and as of April 27, 2026, it's still the best reason to reopen the game. The patch, branded as the Edgerunners 2 Update, arrived with the second season of the Netflix anime attached, and it brings one of the most requested combat features in the game's history: akimbo pistols. It also adds console mod support, a new story mission, cyberware cosmetics, a new radio station and a stack of technical-tuning changes.

Here's what's in the update and why it's more than a routine patch.

Dual-wielding is finally a real playstyle

The big combat headline is Double Trouble, a perk in the Cool skill tree. Once you take it, V can hold and fire two pistols or revolvers at the same time. It's not an animation trick or a special weapon gimmick; it's a general combat option. That means one-handed builds now behave the way players have wanted since the game shipped.

This changes how a Cool-focused V moves through close-range fights. Instead of picking a single sidearm, you can double up on damage, spend more time on fire and reload management, and build around two weapons at once.

Cyberware can now be pimped out

Update 2.5 also attacks the visual side of customization. There are 40 new "Pimp My Chrome" options for cyberware, and the big arm-based implants — Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire and the Projectile Launch System — can get a new look. The work happens at Glamdocs, a new type of street clinic dotted around Night City. Add in fresh hairstyles, new clothing options, and updated hand and arm cyberware sets, and V's appearance has a few more lanes to play in.

That's a pure cosmetic update, but in a game where players spend dozens of hours staring at their character's hands, it matters.

A new side story connects to Edgerunners season two

The anime tie-in is not just a jacket. The new mission, Clampdown, is set before the second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It becomes available after you finish The Heist and complete a couple of jobs for Wakako. The reward is a five-piece outfit inspired by King, one of the season's key characters. It doesn't rewrite the main plot, but it does give the anime a direct on-ramp inside the game.

Night City Tours and tarot cards

Separately, the patch includes Night City Tours, a questline that explores the history of the city through lore and location tours. The narration is built around Richard Night, the man who gave the city its name, and it gives players a slower, tourist's-eye view of the setting.

If you like collectibles, 12 new Minor Arcana tarot cards are hidden in the world, and each one unlocks a new line of dialogue from Misty. The same tarot designs are also being released as a physical deck, so the in-game art can follow you to the table.

A second radio frequency

Night City's soundtrack grows by one channel. HKGN 102.0 FM joins the dial with 16 tracks pulled from both seasons of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It's a small content addition, but it changes the atmosphere of long drives, and it gives the anime's music a permanent home in the open world.

Console mods might be the quietest big feature

The most future-proof addition is cross-platform mod support. CD Projekt Red built mod.io directly into the game's menu, so PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players can browse, download and enable community-made mods without touching a PC. The same support already covers PC and Mac players, and the Nintendo Switch 2 version was wired for mod support from the start.

That matters for the next few years. Console players have been locked out of Cyberpunk modding since launch, and this is the first official bridge CDPR has built. It also sets a clear expectation for future titles: if a big open-world Cyberpunk game wants to last, mods can't be a PC-only privilege.

Technical upgrades and quality-of-life fixes

Update 2.5 is also a maintenance patch. It adds Nvidia DLSS 4.5 support, improves ray tracing on compatible GPUs, gives console players a field-of-view slider, and opens up more poses and options in Photo Mode. The official change log includes a fresh list of bug fixes and performance optimizations aimed at keeping the game from stuttering on older hardware.

The FOV slider alone is a quality-of-life win for people playing on a television from a couch. The game already looks dramatic; now the camera can match the player's preferred view.

Why CDPR changed its mind

This update is not just a re-release with a new hat. On the business side, it tells you how CDPR is thinking about the Cyberpunk franchise. When Update 2.5 was announced, many players were surprised because CD Projekt Red had hinted the game's major post-launch work was done. Instead, the studio made a direct, free content drop that ties the game to the Netflix anime and gives players a reason to return right as the second season launched.

That move keeps Cyberpunk 2077 alive during the long wait for the next game in the franchise, which is still in development. It also lets CDPR test how mods will work when the next installment finally arrives.

Bottom line

Update 2.5 is not a second Phantom Liberty. It's better to think of it as a transition-era gift. It adds a new combat style, a real console mod ecosystem, an anime-connected quest, a stack of customization options, and solid technical improvements.

The update is live now for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Mac App Store and Nintendo Switch 2 versions expected to follow. There's no price tag attached. If you need an excuse to walk through Night City again, this is it.
