BMW India officially introduced the next-generation 7 Series lineup on April 10, 2025, offering both petrol and fully electric variants. The flagship sedan was unveiled in Mumbai by actor Ranveer Singh, who has also been named the brand voice for BMW India. The new 7 Series includes the BMW 740 M Sport, the BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport, and the performance-focused BMW i7 M70 xDrive. With deliveries scheduled to begin in October 2026, the range marks a significant shift in how BMW defines modern luxury in the country.
The new BMW 7 Series is priced competitively against rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the Audi A8 L. Here are the ex-showroom India prices:
Bookings are open at all BMW India dealerships. The petrol variant and the mid-range i7 are locally produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai, making India the only country outside Germany to assemble the BMW i7. The top-end i7 M70 xDrive is imported as a Completely Built-Up (CBU) unit.
The exterior of the new 7 Series adopts BMW's latest luxury-class design language. The standout features include the illuminated BMW Iconic Glow Kidney Grille and BMW Individual Crystal Headlights. The design is more monolithic, with clean surfaces and sharp lines. The 740 M Sport variant adds an M aerodynamics package, redesigned bumpers, larger air intakes, 20-inch alloy wheels, and M Sport brakes with Dark Blue metallic callipers.
Inside, the cabin continues the theme of opulence, with a curved display, extended leather trim, and a panoramic glass roof. Rear-seat passengers enjoy executive seating with massage, heating, and ventilation functions, along with a 31-inch rear-seat entertainment screen.
BMW 740 M Sport: Powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology. The engine produces 375 hp and 540 Nm of torque, mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 5.4 seconds.
BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport: This all-wheel-drive electric variant uses dual motors to produce 456 hp and 650 Nm of torque. The 105.7 kWh battery pack delivers a claimed range of around 600 km on the WLTP cycle.
BMW i7 M70 xDrive: The flagship performance version features dual electric motors producing a combined 680 hp and 1,015 Nm (or up to 1,100 Nm with Launch Control). It sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.7 seconds, making it the most powerful 7 Series ever.
The BMW i7 supports fast DC charging up to 250 kW. Using a compatible charger, the battery can go from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes. BMW claims that a 10-minute charge adds roughly 235 km of range. With a 22 kW AC wallbox, a full charge takes approximately six hours. Real-world range depends on driving conditions, but the WLTP estimate for the i7 eDrive50 is about 600 km, while the M70 variant offers around 500 km.
The decision to locally produce the BMW i7 at the Chennai plant is a strategic move to avoid high import duties (up to 100% on CBUs) and to position the i7 more competitively against the Mercedes-Benz EQS and the Audi Q8 e-tron, which are also locally assembled. Industry analysts note that local production not only reduces cost but also shortens delivery timelines. "BMW's 'Power of Choice' philosophy is now backed by local manufacturing muscle, giving customers flexibility without the price premium of import taxes," said a senior automotive analyst at a Mumbai-based consultancy firm.
The new 7 Series launch comes at a time when India's luxury car market is rapidly electrifying. Mercedes-Benz reported that nearly 25% of its flagship S-Class sales are now the EQS model. BMW's i7, with competitive pricing and local assembly, is expected to capture a significant share of that segment. The i7 M70, despite being a CBU, serves as a halo model to elevate brand perception among enthusiasts. With the Neue Klasse architecture on the horizon, the 7 Series lineup gives a glimpse of BMW's future design and tech direction.
