Audi is back with a tiny electric crossover that aims to reset the bar for efficiency. The new A2 e-tron, revealed on March 31, 2025, crams up to 630 kilometers of WLTP range into a shape that slips through the air with a drag coefficient of just 0.24. Audi claims it’s the most energy-efficient model in the brand’s history.

The original A2 hatchback (2000–2005) was an all-aluminum people mover that never caught on – too expensive, too upright. Two decades later, Audi has reimagined the nameplate as a pure-electric e-tron with a more conventional crossover silhouette. The result is a compact five-door that prioritizes aerodynamics, efficiency, and a heavy dose of recycled materials.

Four powertrain options, three battery sizes

At launch, the A2 e-tron is offered in four power levels: 125 kW, 140 kW, 170 kW, and 240 kW. All models are rear-wheel drive, powered by a single permanently excited synchronous motor. Buyers can choose between three battery packs: 52 kWh, 61 kWh, or 84 kWh.

The entry-level A2 e-tron 125 kW with the 52 kWh battery consumes 13.7 kWh/100 km and delivers a WLTP range of up to 423 km. The range-topping A2 e-tron 240 kW, paired with the 84 kWh battery, uses 14.2 kWh/100 km and offers up to 630 km on a charge. But the most efficient variant is the A2 e-tron 140 kW with an optional efficiency package, which sips just 12.8 kWh/100 km — making it “the most efficient Audi ever.”

Tech that goes beyond the dash

Audi loaded the A2 e-tron with features that were rare in this segment just a year ago. Bi-directional charging is optional, supporting both Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H). DC fast-charging peaks at 183 kW, which can take the 84 kWh battery from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes.

Inside, a 12.8-inch curved multimedia touchscreen sits alongside an 11.9-inch digital cockpit. The “Audi Assistant” leverages artificial intelligence, and the “Audi Connected Work” suite integrates Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and an AI-based Work Agent — making the A2 a rolling office for those who need it.

The magnetic Fidlock fastening system provides modular storage, and Audi says the car has over 300 components made from recycled materials, including steel, aluminum, and plastics. More than 100 components use post-consumer recycled content, and the entire vehicle was designed with end-of-life recycling in mind.

A strategic pivot for Audi

“The A2 e-tron is more than a new model: It represents Audi’s renewal,” said CEO Gernot Döllner during the launch. “It shows how we are rethinking premium for Europe: using resources more intelligently without compromising on quality, technology, or customer experience.”

That renewal is timely. Compact electric crossovers are the hottest segment in Europe, with rivals like the Volvo EX30, Kia EV3, and upcoming Skoda Elroq. The A2 e-tron’s combination of extreme efficiency, long range, and a premium badge could give it a strong foothold — especially if Audi delivers on its promise of a starting price that undercuts the Q4 e-tron.

Pricing and availability

European orders are open now, with first deliveries scheduled for December 2025. In Germany, the A2 e-tron 125 kW starts at €38,200 (approximately $41,500 USD), while the flagship 240 kW variant is priced at €51,200 (about $55,600 USD). U.S. availability has not been announced, but the model’s efficiency and compact size could make it a strong candidate for American buyers looking for a smaller premium EV.

Bottom line
The new A2 e-tron is a niche-filler that could become a mainstream hit. With its record-low drag, impressive real-world range, and a cabin stuffed with sustainability and connectivity, Audi has created a small EV that thinks big. Whether it can outperform the original A2’s sales flop remains to be seen, but the formula this time feels far more contemporary.
