April 11, 2025 – A vehicle plowed into a CVS Pharmacy store in Acton, Massachusetts, on Friday morning, sending shoppers and staff into a brief panic but ultimately leaving no one hurt, according to local police. The incident occurred at the CVS located at 345 Great Road (Route 27), just before 9:30 a.m. local time.
Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash into the building. The driver, a 62-year-old Acton resident, told officers she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake while attempting to park in the store's lot. The car, a silver 2018 Toyota Camry, mounted the curb, crossed the sidewalk, and crashed through the front glass entrance of the CVS, coming to rest inside the store near the pharmacy counter.
Firefighters and EMS crews arrived within minutes, but no injuries were reported among the driver, passengers, or store occupants. The driver was treated at the scene for minor stress and declined transport to a hospital.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic but quickly contained. The vehicle shattered the store's double glass doors, knocked over a display of greeting cards, and damaged a shelving unit containing over-the-counter medications. The store's pharmacy operations were temporarily suspended, and the building was deemed structurally safe after a preliminary inspection by the Acton Building Department.
A CVS corporate spokesperson confirmed that the store would remain closed for the rest of the day while crews removed the vehicle and repaired the storefront. "We are grateful no one was injured," the spokesperson said. "Our priority is the safety of our customers and employees."
The crash caused a temporary lane closure on southbound Route 27 as emergency vehicles cleared the area. Traffic was redirected through the adjacent parking lot for about 45 minutes, causing minor delays during the morning commute. By 10:30 a.m., the road was fully reopened.
Acton Police have not filed any charges, but the incident remains under investigation. Authorities have not indicated whether the driver will face any citations. The Middlesex County District Attorney's office said it is not involved at this time.
This is not the first time a vehicle has crashed into a storefront in Acton. In 2022, a pickup truck struck a Dunkin’ Donuts on Main Street, injuring two people. Local safety advocates have called for better bollard protection at high-traffic storefronts, but no such measures were in place at this CVS.
The driver's insurance company is handling the property damage claim. The Acton Board of Selectmen may discuss the broader issue of vehicle‑storefront crashes at their next meeting, scheduled for April 15. Meanwhile, residents are advised to use the CVS on Great Road's sister location at 450 Great Road until the damaged store reopens.
“Everyone is just relieved it wasn't worse,” said Acton Police Captain John Sanchez. “We remind drivers to always double-check their foot placement, especially when parking.”
