Starting in February, Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle owners in North America will gain access to Tesla's extensive Supercharger network. This move, following Mercedes-Benz's commitment to adopt the North American Charging Standard (NACS), significantly expands reliable fast-charging options for its customers. The integration will be facilitated through a dedicated adapter for existing CCS-equipped models and will feature convenient Plug & Charge technology.
Access to the Tesla Supercharger network for Mercedes-Benz owners will occur in two phases. Beginning in February, owners of existing Mercedes-Benz EVs equipped with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port will be able to use most Tesla Superchargers with an adapter. This adapter will be available for purchase through Mercedes-Benz dealerships and its online store for $185.
Then, starting in 2025, all new Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles will be manufactured with the NACS port built-in, eliminating the need for an adapter. This transition to a native NACS port aligns the brand with a growing industry standard spearheaded by Tesla.
A key benefit of this integration is the addition of Plug & Charge functionality. This technology simplifies the charging process by automatically authenticating the vehicle and initiating payment upon plugging in, removing the need for separate smartphone apps or RFID cards.
To activate this feature, owners of compatible Mercedes-Benz EVs will need to ensure their vehicle has received a mandatory software update, which can be performed at a dealership. Once updated, the Plug & Charge feature will be managed through the Mercedes me app, allowing for seamless charging sessions across the expanding network.
The primary advantage is dramatically improved access to reliable fast charging. Tesla's Supercharger network is widely regarded as one of the most extensive and dependable in North America, comprising over 20,000 DC fast chargers across the U.S. and Canada. For Mercedes-Benz owners, this means more confidence on long-distance trips and reduced range anxiety, as the number of available charging locations increases substantially.
The network has been gradually opening to non-Tesla EVs since 2024, and its reliability is a major boost for any EV brand granted access.
Despite the partnership with Tesla, Mercedes-Benz remains committed to establishing its own high-power charging network. The automaker has already launched several branded charging hubs in North America and has an ambitious plan to build more than 400 sites with over 2,500 chargers by the end of 2027.
These Mercedes-Benz charging stations are integrated into the Mercedes me Charge service, which already provides access to other major third-party networks like Electrify America and ChargePoint. This multi-pronged strategy ensures Mercedes-Benz EV owners have a comprehensive and robust charging ecosystem.
For a seamless experience when the program launches in February, owners should take a few preparatory steps:
The expansion of charging access for Mercedes-Benz EV owners, combining the reliability of Tesla's network with the convenience of Plug & Charge, marks a significant step forward in the practicality of electric vehicle ownership. This initiative provides a more streamlined and accessible charging experience as the automotive industry continues its transition to electrification.
