The most significant change for the 2024 Audi Q4 55 e-tron is under the hood—or more accurately, within its electric powertrain. The new model boasts a total system output of 335 horsepower, a substantial increase of 40 hp over the outgoing Q4 50 model. This power boost is primarily achieved through a new, more powerful and efficient rear electric motor.
The real-world benefit of this upgrade is a markedly quicker acceleration time. Audi states the Q4 55 can now accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.0 seconds, a 0.8-second improvement over the previous model's 5.8-second time. This enhancement places the Q4 e-tron in a more competitive stance against rivals, making it a more engaging vehicle to drive. Despite the performance increase, Audi has managed to extend the driving range. For electric vehicle owners, charging speed is often as critical as driving range. The 2024 Q4 55 e-tron addresses this with important upgrades to its charging system. The maximum DC fast-charging capability has been increased to 175 kilowatts (kW), up from the Q4 50's 150 kW limit.
This higher charging rate translates to a significant reduction in time spent at public charging stations. According to Audi, the time needed to charge the battery from 10% to 80% state of charge is now approximately 28 minutes. The vehicle also features a smart battery preconditioning function. When a DC fast charger is set as the destination in the navigation system, the car automatically heats the battery to an ideal temperature to achieve the fastest possible charging speeds, which is particularly beneficial in cold weather. A new post-conditioning feature also cools the battery after a charging session to preserve its long-term health.
Beyond the powertrain, Audi's engineers have made refinements to the Q4 55's chassis and styling. The suspension and electric power steering have been retuned to enhance driving dynamics and ride comfort, aiming for a more refined on-road experience.
Visually, the most identifiable change is the introduction of new standard 21-inch alloy wheels, which give the SUV a more assertive stance. These updates are subtle but contribute to an overall more polished and capable vehicle. The core design language of the Q4 e-tron, which is based on the Volkswagen Group's MEB platform dedicated to electric vehicles, remains unchanged.
Despite the comprehensive upgrades, Audi has held the line on pricing—a key value proposition for potential buyers. The 2024 Q4 55 e-tron is available to order immediately, with deliveries scheduled to begin in April.
Both prices include the $1,195 destination charge. This means buyers get enhanced performance, range, and charging technology for the same starting price as the previous, less capable Q4 50 model.
