Redfin's new generative AI tool, 'Ask Redfin,' is designed to provide instant answers to critical questions for home buyers directly within its iPhone app. This AI-powered virtual assistant can detail everything from homeowners association (HOA) fees to local market trends, streamlining the initial research phase of a home purchase. For complex inquiries, it seamlessly connects users with licensed real estate agents.
The assistant uses large language models (LLMs), a type of artificial intelligence, to analyze nearly all publicly available data associated with a property listing. This allows you to ask questions in plain English. Instead of manually scanning a listing page for details, you can ask, "What is the average property tax for homes in this neighborhood?" or "Does this house have a recently updated roof?" The system draws from a deep well of information to provide a direct, conversational answer, saving you time during your search.
The tool is designed to answer a wide range of practical questions that are top of mind for buyers. Based on the available data, you can inquire about:
If your question requires professional judgment, such as determining a home's market value or navigating the offer process, the assistant can connect you to a Redfin agent.
Currently, the Ask Redfin beta is available to users searching on the Redfin iPhone app in the U.S. The feature is automatically enabled for listings in select metropolitan areas, including Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, and Washington, D.C. If you are searching outside these areas, you can opt-in manually through the "My Redfin" section of the app. You will need the latest version of the Redfin app, which can be updated via the Apple App Store.
To effectively use this tool, prepare specific questions about features that matter most to you. This focused approach will yield more precise answers than general inquiries. Remember that while the AI provides powerful data insights, consulting a licensed agent is crucial for personalized advice on making an offer.
