Protecting sensitive recruitment documents, such as candidate shortlists, salary band analyses, and internal hiring strategies, is a critical aspect of human resource management. Adding a watermark in Excel is an effective method to deter unauthorized sharing and assert intellectual property rights over your proprietary data. This guide provides a step-by-step approach to inserting, customizing, and removing watermarks, specifically tailored for HR professionals handling confidential information.
In recruitment, data breaches can lead to significant consequences, including the loss of competitive advantage, compromised candidate confidentiality, and damage to employer branding. A watermark—a semi-transparent image or text overlay—acts as a visual safeguard. It can identify a document as "Confidential," display a company logo, or include a draft version number. Since Excel lacks a direct "Insert Watermark" button, the manual method using WordArt is a common solution. This approach is ideal for adding text-based watermarks like "DRAFT" or "CONFIDENTIAL" directly onto the worksheet canvas.
View tab and select Page Layout. This view allows you to see how your worksheet will appear when printed, including headers and footers.Insert tab, then select Text > WordArt. Insert tab and select Text > Header & Footer. This will switch the view and open the Header & Footer Tools Design tab.Picture button in the Design tab, navigate to your saved image, and select Insert.&[Picture] will appear in the header box. To resize the image, click Format Picture.
