How to Deal with Wet Soundproof Cotton in Car Floor Mats?

Usually caused by accidental spills of drinking water or other liquids in the car, these can be dried with a towel. If the car's drainage pipe is blocked and water cannot flow properly, leading to prolonged accumulation of water, it is necessary to go to a repair shop for drainage and unclogging. If the car's air conditioning is damaged and causes water leakage, the air conditioning should be inspected first and then repaired.
I've encountered this situation before when the floor mats got completely soaked after rain, and the sound insulation cotton absorbed a lot of water. Don't panic yet. I immediately pulled the floor mats out of the car to prevent water from seeping under the floor and corroding the parts. I used old towels or absorbent cloths to press and wipe the surface water vigorously, then disassembled the floor mats and took out the sound insulation cotton to dry it separately. Find a well-ventilated place to dry it in the shade, and never expose it to direct sunlight, or the cotton fibers will deform and lose their effectiveness. Wait a day or two until it's completely dry before reinstalling it. If it gets moldy or develops an odor, wash it with soapy water or simply replace the sound insulation cotton. To prevent this from happening again, I now lay a waterproof floor mat and regularly check the car's seals for leaks. If left wet for too long, it can breed bacteria and make the car smell bad. Keeping the windows open for ventilation is key, and I always do this to ensure safety.
